Post Op Day 5

9:00 PM Guess who had his chest tubes removed this evening? This guy!!!

That’s right. About 6pm, the NP “yanked” (and I mean yanked) the tubes out of his chest in one swift motion. It must have been immediate relief because all Apollo said was “Ow” one time, and then was eager to hop down and get a toy out of the toy chest.

Prior to that, however, Apollo had an active afternoon of music therapy in the playroom.

One of his favorite nurses from the CICU stopped by and gave him a big hug before she left because she knows he is close to going home and she isn’t working again until next Monday. She teared up as he latched onto her and gave her a big squeeze.

He still has his pacing wires in as an overnight precaution, but those will come out tomorrow. He then has an echo scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. If that goes well, then he will likely be ... (they don’t use the D word around here until it is official).
Mike heads home on Thursday and we are hoping Dana and Apollo are not far behind. We can’t wait to get home and be a complete family again!! On a side note, today is Magnus’s very special 2 year Family Day. How the time flies! We decided not to have the crew celebrate it without us since we’re not together as a family. You better believe we’ll have a big, yummy cake and whatever else our Magsy would like! Another wonderful reason to celebrate when we get home!!

2:00 PM Guess who is off oxygen?? If you guessed Apollo, you are correct! Without oxygen his sats have remained in the high 80s to low 90s which his cardiologist, Dr. Marx, is very excited to see. He continues to keep heading in the right direction on everything else as well. His blood pressure has stabilized and his drainage continues to slow. He has been up and moving about a lot and we spent about an hour and a half in the play room this morning. There is still a chance his chest tubes will come out later today too. His NP wants him to get up again after his nap to move around. It sounds like they will go ahead and remove if there’s not a lot of new drainage. Even though he will likely feel like a new man without the tubes, he started running in the hallway a little while ago. Can’t hold this little man down for long! Apollo was so excited to receive not one but two gifts in the mail today. Both are perfect! Thank you!!!
