Woowee, what a day! After an extremely hard evening of grieving, our sweet boy slept quite well and started the morning extra early at 4:30am. Both Mike and I woke up multiple times to check on Apollo and it's a good thing we did because we had to put his oxygen cannula back on each time. I don't think we'll sleep soundly until he's slept through the night with it in on several times. We were able to get him undressed and even change his shoes. We were unsuccessful in getting Apollo to take his medicine last night but Daddy got the job done this morning. Score a couple of points for Daddy and Mommy! Mike has been an absolute rockstar and Apollo is quickly becoming Daddy's boy! It's a good thing since Magnus has been a mama's boy from day one.
After a couple hours of play and getting ready, we headed down to a delicious breakfast. We are staying at the Shangri-La and it is phenomenal in every way including the 5 star food. Both boys ate their share and then made an absolute mess. A certain little cutie really likes throwing his food so this is something we will definitely be working on.
Our guide, Michael, then met us to head out for a busy day of finalizing Apollo's adoption. We knew what to expect since we did this just one year ago but it didn't go as smoothly as before. The orphanage representative got into a car accident and was taken to the hospital for observation so another representative had to come. We waited about an extra hour to hour and a half at the civil affairs office, but the boys kept us busy!
Once we finally wrapped up, our guide said it was probably too late to go to the police station or notary before lunch. So we came back to the hotel, had a quick lunch and then tried to get the boys down for a quick nap. It didn't go so well! Apollo got about a 30 min nap and Magnus got a 10 minute one.
We then set off for the last two stops, the police station and the notary office. The notary office really gets to Mike and I each time because they ask us a series of questions and one of them is "Are you satisfied with the child?" The ride to the office was one of our wildest yet. The driver was a bit crazy and angry - what a combination! At one point he pulled into the wrong parking lot and almost got us completely boxed in. There were cars parked in every which direction and we missed each of them by an inch or maybe two!
Finally we were all wrapped up and the adoption was finalized. Now we just need to move toward getting his visa and becoming a US citizen.
We are going to make sure Tuesday is low-key. We told our guide to not even come meet us until the afternoon so the boys can have time to just play and take a normal nap.
All in all, it was a really good day for Apollo. He definitely became much more comfortable with us and Magnus. However, when he gets excited, his breathing because extremely labored. Our family can heal his heart emotionally, but we need those expert docs out in Boston to do the rest!
What a sweet picture of Mike walking with his two boys. Indeed, sounded like a very crazy but memorable day. Many more prayers and much love to you all.
