Post Op Day #3

8am
Apollo had a pretty restful night and had his central line in his neck pulled first thing this morning. He is so much more comfortable which makes us both happy! He's had some ups and downs with vitals as to still be expected soon after major surgery. Despite them, they mentioned breaking out of the CICU! We will see how the day goes. We're not in as nice of a room with doors like Magnus so we hear everything in the hall and 2 babies next to us who cry a lot. A move to the inpatient unit on the other side of the floor is much needed!

12:30pm
We had a snuggly morning until our sweet boy vomitted everywhere. Everywhere! He was so shook up by the incident and it was hard to coax him into taking a highly anticipated walk. He agreed to stand but refused to take any steps and only wanted to be held. We took a stroll with me carrying him and our nurse wheeling the IV cart and oxygen tank. He loved seeing all of the itty bitty babies here. We arrived at the hallway with the toy chest and his nurse enticed him with picking out a toy. Sure enough, it did the trick and he took about 10 steps to the treasure chest! He happily picked out a Dinobots figurine and practically ran back to his room (which is on the other side of the unit!). Maybe a slight exaggeration but it was a definite fast walk. I teared up picturing him running into the arms of his daddy, sisters, and brother at the airport. He was extremely proud of himself and quite tuckered out. He's now slowly drifting off for a much deserved nap. He ceases to amaze me every single day!!

6:30pm
We've made it to the other side!! We happily moved out of the CICU and into the inpatient unit on the same floor just a bit ago. Everything looking great except Apollo's heparin level isn't therapeutic so they will have to give him an injection every 12 hours and draw blood once a day until it is in an acceptable range. I'm so diappointed but in the grand scheme of things, we have everything else to be thankful for! He had his arterial line pulled so he just has one IV line in his hand, oxygen, and his chest tubes. Thanks be to God! As a welcome gift to the inpatient unit, the sweet, adopted family who I mentioned before gave Apollo an adorable teddy bear and a gift card to Au Bon Pain downstairs. We are both thrilled and very grateful to our new friends!
